Evans aims to renew Welsh career

Steve Evans
Evans has won seven international caps for Wales

The New Saints defender Steve Evans hopes his switch to the Welsh Premier League can earn him a Wales call-up.

Evans, who was out of favour at Wrexham, has rejoined TNS, and Saints manager Andy Cale feels the 29-year-old can still play internationally.

Cale told BBC Radio Shropshire: "He's a big strong defender, and if he can play a good run of games and play well, who knows how high he can go again?"

Evans, who turns 30 in a few weeks, has seven Welsh caps to his name.

As a TNS player, he won nine semi-professional caps between 2002 and 2005, during which time he attracted the attention of then-Wrexham boss Denis Smith. He made his full Welsh debut against Liechtenstein the following year as a Wrexham player.

Evans starts his second spell with The New Saints in their home game with title rivals Llanelli at Oswestry on Saturday at 1430 GMT.
