Telford bid for Trophy last four

AFC Telford United will look to move a step closer to Wembley when they take on Southport in Saturday's FA Trophy quarter-final at the Bucks Head.

Telford have beaten their fellow Blue Square North play-off contenders once at home already this season, 1-0 in front of 3,558 in early December.

And Smith is urging his men to pull off a repeat against the Sandgrounders.

"If you're close to getting to Wembley, you give it everything you can," Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"It's going to be who can break each other down.

"I think it will be fully committed and a game both sides are looking forward to."

Telford welcome back midfielder Steve Jagielka after passing a fitness test.

Jagielka has not played for over a month after injuring his knee in January but is expected to be included in the squad.

But striker Andy Brown, who has missed the Bucks' last seven games, will not be back in circulation for another week following an injection in his foot.

The Bucks, who are also through to the regional final of the Setanta Shield, made it to the last eight of the Trophy thanks to their 1-0 victory at Kettering three weeks ago - their fifth win this season over Blue Square Premier opposition.

Telford, joint record winners of the Trophy (having won in 1971, 1983 and 1989), are one of the three sides from outside the Conference top flight left in the competition.

That will not unnerve them as they have proved all season that they raise their game for the big matches. But, in a tie that guarantees one Blue Square North side making the semi-finals, Smith's men start the afternoon as the higher-placed team.

Telford's 5-1 win against Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday night leapfrogged them above Southport into third place.

Other ties: Wrexham v Ebbsfleet United, Stevenage Borough v Forest Green Rovers, York City v Havant & Waterlooville
