Barry recruit Bishop
Former Manchester City midfielder Ian Bishop
Ian Bishop has returned from a spell in America
Former Manchester City midfielder Ian Bishop is to play for Barry Town during their European campaign.

The 37-year-old agreed to the deal after returning to this country following a spell with Miami Fusion in America.

Bishop was an apprentice at Everton before moves to Carlisle and Bournemouth saw him reach the top level at West Ham, as well as two spells at Maine Road.

The short-term contract will see the Liverpool-born player turn out in Barry's two Champions League matches against Skonto Riga, and any additional matches if the Dragons get through.

Manager Kenny Brown has also recruited attacking midfielder Nathan Cotterill from Cwmbran. Cotterill, 25, who scored 10 goals last season, has agreed a one-year deal at Jenner Park.

He is likely to be seen as a straight replacement for Mike Flynn, who moved to Nationwide League club Wigan Athletic earlier in the season.

Barry take on Skonto in Latvia on Wednesday, 17 July, before entertaining them in Wales a week later.

Cwmbran have reacted to the loss of Cotterill by clinching the double signing of TNS striker Jody Jenkins and Ton Pentre goalkeeper Marty Ellacott. Both have been at the club before.

Nathan Wigg, Pat O'Hagan, Mattie Davies, Sean Wharton, Sean Mainwaring, Anthony Wright and Chris Watkins have also signed one-year extensions to contracts.

Aberystwyth have also been busy in the transfer market, snapping up Stevenage pair Paul Armstrong and Mark Duckett.

Armstrong, the nephew of former Northern Ireland international Gerry, scored nine goals in the Nationwide Conference last season, while Duckett can play anywhere on the left side.

Meanwhile, Bangor City captain Simon Davies has given the Farrar Road outfit a boost ahead of their Uefa Cup clash with FK Sartid Smderevo, of Yugoslavia.

The former Manchester United star has agreed a one-year contract to stay with the club despite interest from a number of other League of Wales sides.

Rhyl have re-signed defender Timmy Edwards and striker Gary Powell - both from TNS - while Welsh youth international Danny McTaggart has already been recruited..
