Barry complete Welsh double

Barry Town 4-1 Bangor City

Barry completed the League of Wales/Welsh Cup double for the second season running with victory at Aberystwyth.

It was a hard-earned win over a Bangor side who refused to lie down throughout the game.

Bangor, aiming to put their disappointing finish to the League of Wales season behind them, were the first onto the attack.

Marc Lloyd-Williams, looking to add to his 63 league and cup goals this season, took advantage of some slack Barry marking but was denied by a good save from Simon Rayner.

It was the Dragons who took the lead though, after eight minutes, with a fine strike from captain Jon French.

Gay Lloyd nodded the ball on for French to turn past Huw Griffiths and fire into the top corner past a stranded Phil Priestley.

French had a chance to double his side's advantage soon after, but was denied by Arwel Rowlands' block, and then Lee Phillips' header was cleared off the line by Alan Goodall.

Barry kept up the pressure, and striker Jamie Moralee should have done better with a free header which went over the top before Phillips hobbled off to be replaced by Dave Toomey.

The second goal, that had been threatened, came in the 34th minute when a long ball caused chaos in the Bangor defence, and Mike Flynn took possession to lash home from the edge of the area.

Bangor needed to get back into the match quickly and they did following a good free kick from ex-Welsh international Clayton Blackmore.

His curling cross into the area was met by defender Griffiths and his header arrowed into the net to reduce Barry's lead to 2-1 at the interval.

Bangor began the second period brightly with Griffiths going close with another header before Barry scored their third.

French's corner didn't appear dangerous, but the Bangor defence and goalkeeper Priestley stood motionless as Moralee gleefully forced the ball home.

The goal stunned Peter Davenport's side and Barry continued to dominate with Lloyd and Flynn both going close to adding to their tally.

Bangor made a double substitution with Steve Cooper and Craig Roberts replacing Owain Tudor Jones and Aled Rowlands, and almost immediately got a goal back.

Lloyd-Williams, who had been kept quiet, suddenly burst into life with a driving run, but saw his shot rebound off the post to safety.

And the prolific missed an even better chance with ten minutes to go.

Paul Roberts was brought down by Lee Jarman, but Rayner dived to his right to stop Lloyd-Williams' penalty.

Bangor sensed in wasn't to be their day when Rayner made a superb save to stop a vicious shot from Craig Roberts.

Then, just to rub it in, Moralee made it 4-1 with the last kick of the game as his deflected shot looped over Priestley into the net.

Barry Town: Rayner; Jarman, Lloyd, Kennedy, Morgan, Phillips (Toomey, 28), York, French (capt), Moralee, Flynn, Ramasut (Pratt, 84).

Bangor City: Priestley; Tudor Jones (C Roberts, 70), Goodall, Short, Rowlands (Cooper, 70), Griffiths, Lloyd-Williams, Blackmore, P Roberts, Davies, Burgess.
