The Candystripes ended a disappointing Eircom Premier Division campaign with this defeat at Flancare Park. Derry took a 43rd minute lead through David McDaid before Alan Mooney bagged a hat-trick for Longford.
The Town striker levelled in first-half injury-time and added a penalty on 72 minutes before completing his treble three minutes from time.
Despite the win Longford are relegated after Waterford United got the point they needed at Shamrock Rovers.
