Kevin McHugh was Derry City's goalscorer |
Bohemians edged out Derry City 2-1 in Friday night's Eircom Premier League game at the Brandywell. Dean Pooley got on the end of a Chris Turner corner and drilled a right-foot shot past Pat Jennings on seven minutes to give the visitors the lead.
Kevin McHugh levelled by poking the ball home from eight yards on 32 minutes after Peter Hutton and Kevin Deery had shots blocked.
Michael McGinley beat Jennings from the edge of the box on 56 to seal the win.
After central defender Pooley had given Bohs the lead, Gareth McGlynn shot wide from six yards for Derry and Mark Farren was denied by Brian Murphy.
McHugh took advantage of a goalmouth scramble to equalise but Farren was denied a blatant penalty appeal when he appeared to be fouled by Conor Powell on 49 minutes.
McGlynn then appeared to be pulled back by Liam Burns, who was shown a yellow card when a red would have seemed more appropriate.
Glen Crowe provided the pass for McGinley to score the winner and Eddie McCallion shot straight at the goalkeeper on 66 minutes.
Meanwhile Drogheda claimed the Premier league title with a 2-1 win over Cork City.
