Iraq 2-1 Saudi Arabia
Iraq dumped three-time champions Saudi Arabia out of the Asian Cup as they advanced to the quarter-finals with a well-deserved win on Monday.
Saudi coach Gerard Van der Lem was sacked immediately after the defeat, which led to his team finishing bottom of Group C.
It is the first time in history that the side have failed to make it past the group stage of Asia's most prestigious competition.
Iraq scored their first goal just after the break when Saudi-based midfielder Nashat Akram produced a clinical left-foot finish in the 51st minute.
Defender Hamad Al Montashari gave Saudi Arabia a lifeline six minutes later, arriving at the back post to head in a flick-on from Ibrahim Sowed.
But substitute Younis Mahmoud scored the 87th-minute winner, pouncing on a blocked shot to allow Iraq to finish second behind Uzbekistan in the group and earn a quarter-final tie with host country China.
Uzbekistan 1-0 Turkmenistan
In Monday's other Group C match, Uzbekistan emerged triumphant in the clash of the former Soviet republics, thanks to a lone goal from Mirdjala Kasimov.
Uzbekistan went ahead three minutes after the break when Kasimov, on for the injured Illyas Zeytulayev, scored with one of his trademark free-kicks.
Turkmenistan pushed forward to find the equaliser but could not find a way past the Uzbek defence, even after Islom Innomov was sent off for receiving two yellow cards.
The win allowed Uzbekistan to finish with a perfect nine points from their group games as they now head to Chendgu for their quarter-final match with Bahrain.
