Shao Jiayi had plenty to celebrate against Indonesia |
China 5-0 Indonesia China have cruised past Indonesia with a 5-0 thrashing to lift them to the top of their Asian Cup group.
German-based midfielder Shao Jiayi scored twice to give the Chinese four points from their opening two games.
China went ahead in the 25th minute when Shao latched onto a fine cross from Li Jinyu with a fierce volley.
When Indonesia's Alexander Pulalo was sent off, the floodgates opened, with Shao again, Hao Haidong, Li Ming and Li Yi all finding the target.
"Five is a handful," said China coach Arie Haan. "It's a lot. Tonight we played our game and I am very satisfied.
"This game was very good for Shao's confidence. He is close to his best form. It's pleasing that we have started to score goals again."
China have never won the Asian Cup and only need a point against Qatar on Sunday to reach the quarter-finals.
Qatar 1-1 Bahrain
Mohamed Hubail scored an injury-time equaliser for Bahrain as they drew with Qatar in the Asia Cup.
Qatar took the lead from the penalty spot through Wesam Rizik after 59 minutes after the referee penalised a challenge from Hassan Al Mosawi.
Bahrain had a strong penalty claim turned down after Saoud Fath appeared to foul Bahrain substitute Duaij Naser.
The Bahrain player was booked for protesting, but Hubail's looping header eventually restored parity.
Qatar sacked coach Phillipe Troussier on Tuesday - and his replacement Saeed Al Mesned said: "We tried to work on the psychological side before the game.
"I told the players they must believe they can do something for their country and to play with heart and discipline. They did that and we were very near to winning."
