Swansea 2-0 Lincoln City
John Williams (centre) celebrates his goal
John Williams (centre) sealed the win in the second-half

Bottom-club Swansea City grabbed three vital points after a well-earned win against play-off hopefuls Lincoln.

Although the victory was not enough to lift Brian Flynn's side off the foot of the table, it does see them close the gap on the teams above them.

The Swans started the stronger and could have been in front within the first five minutes.

On-loan West Ham midfielder Leon Britton saw his superb 20-yard volley well saved by Lincoln goalkeeper Alan Marriot.

Lincoln had the ball in the Swansea net after 20 minutes when Ben Futcher bundled the ball home from Stuart Bimson's corner.

But referee David Crick adjudged that Lincoln's top-scorer fouled keeper Roger Freestone.

Swansea made the most of their lucky break, and took full advantage by taking the lead a minute before half-time.

Britton's cross was met by Kevin Nugent at the far post and the former Cardiff striker made no mistake with his close-range header.

The points were sealed when John Williams doubled the lead after 67 minutes, smashing home Andy Mumford's corner.

Swansea: Freestone, Jason Smith, Tate, Evans, Howard, Mumford, Britton, Lenny Johnrose, Lenny Johnrose, Nugent, Williams, Thomas. Subs: O'Leary, Watkin, Richards, Jenkins, Stiens.

Lincoln: Marriott, Weaver, Morgan, Futcher, Bailey, Bimson, Gain, Smith, Butcher, Cropper, Yeo. Subs: Horrigan, Cornelly, Sedgemore, Cornwall, Bloomer.
