Bury handed Oxford United victory on the opening day of the season when Lee Unsworth set the home side on their way by gifting them a penalty.

Unsworth's handball in the area as he competed with Manny Omoyinmi for a through-ball allowed Andy Crosby to score from the spot after 30 minutes.

Oxford were far from impressive despite taking all the points at the Kassam stadium.

The visitors, relegated from Division Two last season, went close through Pawel Abbott and Lee Connell in the opening 15 minutes and Oxford were never in the hunt until the penalty.

Within four minutes, Oxford increased the lead from the best move of the match.

Omoyinmi, David Oldfield and Dean Whitehead combined to open up the visitors' defence.

And it was Omoyinmi who finished with a low drive past Glynn Garner in the visitors' goal.

Bury had the better of the second half but could only pull a goal back through George Cleggthree minutes from the end.
