| Thursday, 13 February, 2003, 01:13 GMT Crystal Palace 1-1 Burnley Tony Popovic's second-half penalty from gave hard-working Crystal Palace a share of the points at Selhurst Park. Gareth Taylor put Burnley in the lead just before half-time, but Popovic's cool finish in the 61st-minute rescued a point for the home side. Both teams went into the game on a five-match unbeaten run, and were determined to give nothing away in the opening exchanges. Palace threatened in the eighth minute when Julian Gray surged down the flank and supplied a dangerous cross which was scrambled clear by Tony Grant. In-form Tommy Black went close in the 13th minute, but the goalscoring midfielder's close-range effort went wide. Burnley are always dangerous on the break and Taylor's fierce shot from 25 yards after 17 minutes kept Palace on their toes. But the influential Black, who has scored nine goals in the last nine games, forced a superb finger-tip save from Beresford in the 24th minute. The 23-year-old fired another effort wide soon after before Adebola tested Beresford with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Burnley were being pushed onto the back foot and Beresford was again called upon to keep out Gray's long-range shot. However, the Clarets opened the scoring in the 44th minute when Taylor headed home Robbie Blake's left-wing cross. Palace were bitterly disappointed to be 1-0 down at the break, and they started the second on the attack with Andrew Johnson powering a header over the crossbar. Burnley almost doubled their advantage in the 49th minute when former Bradford striker Blake smashed a shot against the woodwork. But Trevor Francis' side were awarded a penalty soon after when Beresford was penalised for a foul on Adebola. Popovic coolly converted the equaliser. Black almost gave his side the lead three minutes later, but his 25-yard shot came back off the frame of the goal. Substitute Ade Akinbiyi, who replaced Adebola shortly after the equaliser, headed narrowly wide in the 67th minute, and he also went close in the 80th minute. Both teams created chances in the latter stages of the game, but were unable to add the decisive touch.
