Players and fans were forced into an emergency evacuation on Tuesday evening when a fire broke out at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester's new �35m stadium.

City had just completed a 2-1 win over rivals Coventry when the alarm sounded.

The 27,000 fans inside the ground had already began to leave the stadium, which was built this summer, and they were joined in a hasty exit by club staff and players.

Three fire appliances were called to the stadium and dealt with a minor fire on the second floor of the ground.

After 20 minutes outside in the rain staff were permitted back inside when it was announced the blaze had been contained.

It is not yet known how the fire began but only minimal damage was reported.

The stadium has been given a clean bill of health and it will be fit for Leicester's next match at home to Rotherham in 10 days' time.
