Norwich 3-1 Millwall

Substitute David Nielsen grabbed two goals as third-placed Norwich City increased the pressure on the Division One pacesetters with a 3-1 victory at Carrow Road.

The Dane quickly made his mark with a 43rd-minute strike.

Steve Claridge equalised for Millwall in the 50th minute but Nielsen restored City's lead eight minutes later before Darren Kenton wrapped up the points 18 minutes from time.

After 27 minutes of a scrappy encounter, Norwich suffered an injury blow when the unlucky McVeigh was forced to leave the field, to be replaced by Nielsen.

Nielsen was quick to cause problems and Andy Roberts was penalised for fouling the Norwich substitute, but Mulryne's free-kick came to nothing.

Millwall hit back and a fiercely inswinging corner from Dennis Wise on the half-hour was cleared by Steen Nedegaard.

Fierce shot

Seven minutes later, it took a brilliant save from Tony Warner to prevent Nielsen giving the Canaries the lead with a fierce shot from the edge of the area.

Nielsen was not to be denied, though, and he duly fired Norwich ahead with an almost identical strike after 43 minutes.

Steve Claridge fired home the equaliser from 15 yards and though there was a suspicion of offside about the goal, Millwall will feel it was a goal they deserved for a gritty display.

But the Canaries duly went back in front after 58 minutes with Nielsen's second goal of the game.

This time, the substitute headed home from Nedegaard's right-wing cross as Norwich at last began to get their passing game together.

Norwich made certain of wrapping up the points after 71 minutes, however, when the impressive Kenton headed home from Mulryne's left-wing cross.

Norwich: Green, Nedergaard, Kenton, Mackay, Drury, Easton, Mulryne, Holt, Southall, Roberts, McVeigh. Subs: Crichton, Emblen, Fleming, Nielsen, Rivers.

Millwall: Warner, Johnson, Nethercott, Ward, Ryan, Ifill, Wise, Roberts, Livermore, Claridge, Harris. Subs: Gueret, Davies, Braniff, Phillips, Bull.
