Burley berates Ipswich
Ipswich manager George Burley lambasted his players after the 2-1 defeat by Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

The reverse saw the Tractor Boys slump to 19th in the Division One table.

We showed no passion or appetite and that was extremely disappointing
George Burley
Burley said: "Our first-half performance was unacceptable.

"We showed no passion or appetite and that was extremely disappointing."

Belarus defender Sergei Shtaniuk had put the home side ahead on 17 minutes before Matt Holland's strike looked to have earned Ipswich a point.

But Andrew Cooke netted 10 minutes from time to give Stoke victory.

Burley added: "After we scored I felt confident we would go on and win, but it was not to be and we have to pick ourselves up and get on with it."

Stoke boss Steve Cotterill said he wanted his side's win to be a springboard for them to start climbing the table.

"We showed ability, passion and guts in equal measures and we needed all three to beat a team of Ipswich's quality," he said.

"Our home fans are extremely passionate and if we can play at the tempo we did on Sunday, we should be able to make it difficult for anyone in this league."
