| Saturday, 21 September, 2002, 17:57 GMT 18:57 UK Bradford 2-2 Burnley ![]() Proctor's equaliser preserved City's unbeaten record A dramatic 90th-minute equaliser from Michael Proctor rescued a draw for nine-man Bradford in after Burnley looked to have come from behind to snatch all three points at Valley Parade. Substitute Claus Jorgensen capitalised on a mistake in the Burnley defence and when his shot came back off the post, on-loan Sunderland striker Proctor was on hand to steer home the rebound. Andy Gray's second goal in three matches gave Bradford a 17th-minute lead but the dismissals of Mark Bower and Danny Cadamarteri left them with an uphill task. Former Bradford strikers Robbie Blake and Gareth Taylor made Burnley's numerical advantage count as the Clarets took the lead but Proctor's late leveller was deserved reward for the home side. Former Leeds and Nottingham Forest midfielder Gray opened the scoring when Wayne Jacobs and Cadamarteri combined well to set him up and he was adjudged to be onside as he tapped the ball past Marlon Beresford.
Bower went into the book for a foul on Dimitrios Papadopoulos shortly before Gray's opener and the Greek striker suffered the same fate for getting his revenge later in the half. Pressure The niggling exchanges between the pair led to Bower's dismissal 10 minutes before the break when his bad challenge left referee Mike Dean with little choice but to brandish the red card. He was joined in the dressing room 10 minutes into the second half when Cadamarteri swung an elbow at Dean West. That left the Bantams needing to hang on for over half an hour with nine men but their lead lasted just two more minutes as West got up off the floor to set up half-time substitute Blake for the equaliser. Burnley understandably began to dominate as the home side struggled to hang on and Aidan Davison did well to deny Taylor and Glen Little, while West and Steve Davis were both off target. The pressure finally told though when Little's inch-perfect cross from the right left Taylor with the simplest of tasks to head home from close range. That should have been game over but Bradford refused to lie down and preserved their unbeaten record in the closing stages with Proctor's goal. Burnley: Beresford, West, McGregor, Cox, Gnohere, Little, Grant, Cook, Briscoe, Taylor, Papadopoulos. Subs: Michopoulos, Stephen Davis, Ian Moore, Blake, Alan Moore. Referee: M Dean (Wirral). |
