Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson says their weekend victory will help them keep in touch with the promotion chase in Blue Square Bet South.
The Sports beat Havant & Waterlooville 2-1 on Saturday to move up to 11th in the table.
He told BBC Sussex: "It wasn't perfect, but it was more hard-working. We were much stronger down the spine.
"We'll be chasing the pack most of the season. I don't want to be too far away from them."
Wilson had special praise for midfielder Steve Brinkhurst, who scored a brace to secure the three points for Boro.

"We're rebuilding the squad and blooding a lot of young players this year," Wilson continued.
"It's a big season for Steve.
"We're encouraging him to get forward at every turn and get shots away.
"He was a handful and played the role really well. They were two superbly well-taken goals."
