Yates is Gainsborough's fifth signing of the close season
Gainsborough Trinity have signed Jamie Yates after he rejected a new contract with their Lincolnshire and Blue Square Bet North rivals Boston United.
Midfielder Yates, 22, began his career at Rotherham and joined the Pilgrims in September 2009, making 77 appearances and scoring eight goals for them.
Trinity have also signed former Everton goalkeeper Andy Pettinger.
But fellow keeper Gavin Ward has retired to focus on his role as manager Brian Little's assistant.
Little has brought in five new players so far as he looks to overhaul his squad, which finished fourth from bottom in Blue Square Bet North last season.
Former Harrogate defender Dominic Roma, ex-Scunthorpe midfielder Jonathan Williams and striker Ryan Paczkowski have all been added to the ranks at the Northolme.
