Lowes won five of the opening six races in the BSB Evo class this year |
Lincoln's Alex Lowes has been drafted into the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team for round four of the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton. He will deputise for Stuart Easton, who was hurt in a crash at the North West 200 road races in Northern Ireland. Lowes said: "It's a strange situation. I really wanted to get a BSB ride but this isn't how I wanted it to happen. "It's a great opportunity to get out on the MSS bike but the focus has got to be on Stuart's recovery." Lowes, 20, currently leads the BSB Evo class after five victories in six races for the WFR Honda team, with a best overall finish of fifth at Croft in round three. But he parted company with the team just two days after the Croft meeting following a dispute over contracts. Easton suffered leg, pelvic and internal injuries after colliding with team-mate Gary Mason during the Superstock qualifying session at the NW200 and is set to undergo surgery later this week. "This is a really difficult decision to make at such an exceptionally sensitive time," said MSS Colchester Kawasaki team boss Nick Morgan. "If I'm honest, both ourselves and Alex feel terrible over the timing. "That said, Alex has no ride and when we approached him he was keen to try and ride the bike and continue the great development job that both Stuart and Gary have carried out."
