Maidenhead United boss Johnson Hippolyte says his side deserved Monday's 4-3 win at Basingstoke Town.
Goalkeeper Steve Williams saved a penalty in the closing stages to give the Magpies their first Blue Square Bet South win of 2011.
Hippolyte told BBC Berkshire: "We got a winner that we thoroughly deserved, we nearly threw it away but lady-luck was shining upon us for once.
"Justice has been done and we're now in cutting distance of the other teams."
Despite the win, Maidenhead still lie bottom of the table, four points from safety.

"We haven't completed the job yet. Though, it was a nice feeling to come off the pitch as winners," added Hippolyte.
"Our fate is in our own hands at the moment so we can still do something about the predicament that we're in and we can't ask for more than that."
"I'm hoping the win can start breeding confidence. Then, we can start showing people that we're better than our league position."
