New Kings Lynn chairman Chapman bitten by football bug

Keith "Buster" Chapman has admitted running King's Lynn Town is fast converting him into a football fan.

Appointed chairman of the newly formed club in 2010, Chapman was best known for involvement in speedway and admitted knowing little about football.

After watching the team beat St Neots 2-1 to reach the quarter finals of the FA Vase, he told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"I'm enjoying it like I do the speedway now, I can see why people are fanatical about it, it gets under your skin."

He added: "I suppose once you're part of it you become a bit more involved and a bit more emotional. I'm thoroughly enjoying it."

Jack Defty and Robbie Harris scored the goals that saw Lynn progress against their United Counties League title rivals.

They now face Rye United of the Sussex County League in the last eight at their home ground, The Walks, on Saturday, March 5.

One thousand six hundred supporters packed The Walks for the tie, while around 800 travelled for a league tie at St Neots the previous weekend.

Chapman says that level of support justifies his move to resurrect the club after King's Lynn FC folded in late 2009.

"The people of Norfolk and King's Lynn want this kind of football, they're enjoying it and getting behind us, it's pushing everybody on.

"The team, the managers, the backroom staff, all pushing for us is like a family, it's fantastic," he said.

"It's hard work though, I have to say, harder than I ever expected," he added.
