AFC Telford sign former Port Vale captain Sam Stockley

Stockley has been waiting for international clearance

Defender Sam Stockley has joined AFC Telford United after a spell with Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

The 33-year-old previously played for Port Vale, Barnet, Oxford, Colchester and Wycombe in a 13-year league career.

"He's an experienced defender who can fill a number of roles," Telford boss Andy Sinton told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Stockley has signed a non-contract deal but first has gone on trial with an American club with the possibility of a move there later this year.

"Even if it's a short-term deal, it's good for us and good for him - he's a very useful addition," Sinton added.

The former Port Vale captain left the Valiants with an eye injury in November 2009 before taking up a coaching post in Hungary.

He has been training with Telford while awaiting international clearance from the Hungarian FA, so is fit enough to play for the Bucks straightaway if needed.
