Neil Cartwright's first-half goal was enough for Worcester City to book their place in the second round of the FA Trophy with victory over Northwich.
The defender's cross drifted over the head of visiting keeper James Spencer and into the far corner of the net.
Northwich were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Kingsley Williams was sent off for a poor challenge.
City created other good chances but they needed a late goal-line clearance to preserve their slender lead.
Worcester goal scorer Neil Cartwright told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It was a great goal wasn't it - you won't see a better one on Match of the Day tonight.
"No, I'll be honest, it was a cross and I just tried to stand it up for Macca [Marc McGregor] at the back stick and I just shanked it a little bit.
"But to be honest to win 1-0 and to score the winning goal, I am happy with that."
