Carl Heeley wants Worcester City momentum

Worcester City

Worcester City manager Carl Heeley says his side can build on their midweek victory in their FA Trophy match at Nuneaton this weekend.

City beat Kidderminster in the Worcestershire Senior Cup on Tuesday, following two league defeats in a row.

Heeley told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "If we go and play like we did at Kidderminster in the County Cup then it will be a very tough game for Nuneaton.

"We have to go into it confidently and put in one of our better performances."

The Warwickshire-based club has won six and lost only one of its eight home matches so far this season, but Heeley believes his side will go into the game in a confident frame of mind.

It [Tuesday's victory] was a win against our local-rivals who are a full-time outfit," Heeley added.

"A win is a win and we needed that win just to give a little bit of belief back to the lads.

"The aim is to take that into the weekend and look for back-to-back wins."

Worcester have had problems with injuries to defenders throughout the season, but experienced former Northern Ireland international Mark Clyde is likely to return.

Graham Ward had surgery on a broken nose last week and is desperate to return to competitive action, but Heeley insists this will only happen with the approval of the medical experts.

He said: "It's down to Graham Ward but he doesn't tend to listen to the medical advice.

"That's where I need to come in alongside Steve Ball our physio and do what's right for [him].

"As much as I want to see him back on the pitch, I have to consider his health, and make sure his well-being is at the top of the list before we select him."
