Harrogate Town go out of FA Cup at FC Halifax Town

Harrogate Town

Nine-man Harrogate Town's FA Cup run ended at FC Halifax Town with a 4-0 defeat in the third quailfying round.

Richard Pell and James Naylor were both sent off in the first-half for two bookable offences.

Assistant manager John McDermott told BBC Radio York: "I thought the lads dug in and showed some character today.

"You see a 4 nil in the paper the next day and you think you've had a good hiding. But we never and we showed character and it was a bit flattering."

He added: "The sending offs were major things in the game.

"They led to the first goal with the penalty.

"You sort of regroup and you've got another player off and you've got down to 9 men which is hard in any game.

"But when you've got 2000 fans also cheering them on its a backs to the walls job."

Former Harrogate Town forward Danny Holland was one of the scorers for Halifax.
