Braintree Town manager Rod Stringer says his side's start to the season has exceeded his expectations.
The Iron are second in the Blue Square Bet South after a 1-0 win over Eastleigh on Saturday, three points behind leaders Bromley.
Stringer told BBC Essex: "We're probably a little bit in front of where we felt we could be.
"At the end of the day we've hit the road running but it doesn't always work that way."
Braintree have played four of the top seven sides in the division and have conceded just four goals in their nine matches so far.
Stringer has praised striker Sean Marks' contribution to the side after he scored the winner on Saturday, his ninth goal in as many games.
"At the moment he's in good areas, he knows where the back of the target is and finger crossed, long may it continue," he said.
