Brackley striker Steve Basham return handled carefully

Steve Basham
Basham was at Oxford between 2002 and 2007, playing 187 times

Brackley manager Jon Brady says striker Steve Basham is being carefully reintroduced to the side following a serious chest injury.

The 32-year old was in hospital for a week following an off-the-ball incident during the Saint's pre-season friendly against Cogenhoe.

"We are easing him in and wanted him to feel confident he was ready," Brady told BBC Oxford.

"It was a horrible injury and our physio has been fantastic with him."

The former Oxford United striker has been given time to fully recover from the chest problem with Brady not wanting to rush Basham back into action too soon.

Brady said: "He played an hour in a county cup game in midweek and then played the full 90 minutes against Leamington on Saturday.

"He was very tired at the end but did magnificently well and brought a whole new dimension to our play."
