Hospital release Brackley Town striker Steve Basham

Brackley Town striker Steve Basham has been released from hospital after a heavy challenge left him with a suspected collapsed lung.

The 32-year-old former Oxford United player suffered the injury in an off-the-ball incident during Brackley's pre-season friendly against Cogenhoe.

Basham will now work with club physio Holly Rust-March but is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

He joined Brackley this summer after leaving Luton Town.

Saints manager Jon Brady told BBC Oxford: "It's not good to see one of your players in hospital with a tube in his chest.

"It was really nasty. It was a terrible challenge. I was unlucky enough to see it and it was totally off the ball."

Basham, who spent five years at the Kassam Stadium, also played for Southampton, Wrexham, Preston, Exeter and had a loan spell at Hayes & Yeading last season.
