Woking director of communications David Taylor has said the club will not risk overspending to gain promotion to Blue Square Bet Premier.

Owner Chris Ingram stepped in as director last month after worries surfaced that the club could lose up to £200,000 in the current financial year.

But Taylor told BBC Surrey: "The bottom line is the club is secure.

"I would rather see a club in business in Ryman Division Two than I would see a club going bust."

He added: "There are going to be many clubs going out of business which riles me and every other fan.

"And I think it's great Chris has stepped back in. He is a fan first and foremost."

Taylor added that he would like to see Woking owned entirely by the club's supporters in the future.

He continued: "Can a football club survive on it's own, without any kind of backing?"

"Speaking on my own behalf, I think ultimately we would like to move to fan shareholder ownership of the club.

"I think a lot of fans and shareholders would be up for making that happen."
