Chairman Shahid Azeem conscious of Woking's finances

Woking

Woking chairman Shahid Azeem says he is more concerned with readying the club's infrastructure than leading them to promotion to the Conference.

The Blue Square South club are nearing the end of their first season without benefactor Chris Ingram, who put £4m into the club over a six-year period.

Azeem told BBC Surrey: "Clearly I'd love to win the league.

"I think we have to be realistic. If you haven't got the infrastructure then it's not obtainable."

Ingram, who is a former chairman of Woking, remains as head of the club's holding company but is looking to move away, and Azeem says it has not been as easy as first hoped.

"It's taken a lot longer than we'd all anticipated, the problem is that there is a lot of legal work involved," Azeem added.

"I've said this before and I hope not to repeat it again, a lot has moved in the last few weeks really quickly and I think we're really on track now."
