Edmondson's side are unbeaten in their first six matches this season

Workington boss Darren Edmondson has revealed a half-time rant was the key to Saturday's 2-1 win against Vauxhall Motors at Borough Park.

Edmondson was disappointed with a sluggish opening 45 minutes, but was pleased with the response of his players in the second period.

"There were some choice words, a few didn't want to run about in the sunshine," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"But we started the second-half brighter and ended up victors."

Edmondson added: "If you're winning matches and not playing well, then that is the sign of a good team."

One slight concern for Edmondson is the early-season drought of last season's 23-goal striker Gareth Arnison, who is waiting to open his account for the new campaign.

However the Reds boss is confident the forward can rediscover his form.

"All centre forwards want to score early doors, it gets you on the way and it's always the first one that is the sticking point," Edmondson continued.

"The longer you don't get it the longer it's on your mind. I was talking to a manager this morning about one of his centre forwards who has had loads of chances and he's waiting to get one.

"Gareth will get one at some point, he's got ability and we'd rather it came sooner."

Edmondson's side are third in Blue Square Bet North, unbeaten in their first six games with 16 points.
