Gainsborough slipped to their third consecutive defeat in the Blue Square Bet North with a 2-1 loss at Alfreton.
A header from Leon Mettam gave Trinity the lead two minutes into the second half, only for Mark Hume to head into his own net six minutes later.
Alfreton grabbed the winner on 73 minutes with a close-range volley from former Trinity striker Paul Clayton.
The defeat leaves Gainsborough in the bottom six while Alfreton are second after four wins out of four.
