Boston United reach Unibond Premier play-off final

Boston United

First-half goals from Jamie Yates and Marc Newsham earned Boston United a 2-1 win over North Ferriby United to set up a play-off decider against Bradford PA.

Yates struck on 36 minutes after North Ferriby failed to clear a free-kick.

Newsham doubled the Pilgrims' lead four minutes later, volleying home a Yates cross for his 28th goal of the season.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 78th minute through Paul Foot, who was then denied an equaliser by keeper Tom Evans as Boston held on for the win.

Joint-manager Paul Hurst was pleased with the reaction to the 0-0 draw at Marine, which denied Boston the league title and automatic promotion.

"It's easy to think the players would have still been down, but I would have been disappointed if that was the case," he said.

"The players knew they owed themselves a good performance. It was a good reaction following the disappointment of Saturday, but one that didn't surprise me."

Boston United travel to the Horsfall Stadium to face Bradford Park Avenue in the Unibond Premier Division play-off final on Saturday (1500 BST).
