Boston United win Unibond League Challenge Cup final
Marc Newsham's goal took his tally for the season to 27
Marc Newsham and Ryan Semple were on target as Boston United beat Retford United 2-0 to win the Unibond League Challenge Cup final on Wednesday.
Newsham put the Pilgrims ahead on the stroke of half-time, turning home Jamie Yates' cross who then set up Semple for the second goal after 70 minutes.
Joint-manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We created some good chances and scored two good goals.
"It was by no means our strongest side but whoever comes in can do a job."
With one eye on their Unibond Premier title-deciding match at Marine, Boston made seven changes from their weekend victory over FC United of Manchester for the final which was played at Lincoln United's Ashby Avenue ground.
Hurst said: "We changed the side with Saturday in mind and asked one or two to play out of position, but they're all good players.
"I thought we deserved the victory on the night, the only downside is that we can't really celebrate because we know we have a bigger job to finish off on Saturday."
A win for Boston at Marine will see the Pilgrims promoted as Unibond Premier Division champions.
