Building work starts at King's Lynn Town

The Walks stadium in Kings Lynn

King's Lynn Town are starting building work to improve The Walks stadium before the start of the new season.

Chairman Buster Chapman has a formal agreement for the council-owned ground.

He said: "If we don't start work soon we won't have things completed before the new season. We hope to start demolishing the toilets very quickly.

"We've got brand new toilet blocks with access for disabled people and baby changing facilities. There's work around the terracing area to be done."

He continued: "We also need to rebuild new fences and there'll also be lights put in to make the alleyways safer. Anything that makes it better for fans."

The more improvements we've done at the Norfolk Arena the more people come

The entrance to The Walks will also be opened up and improved with a new shop for supporters and Chapman says there will be better facilities to buy tickets.

"We're going to put a box office system in like there is at speedway's Norfolk Arena," he said. "You won't actually pay at the turnstile like you do now which causes queues, you'll get your tickets before you walk through."

It is hoped the new facilities will attract a new crowd and help improve the financial situation at the club.

Chapman also owns the Norfolk Arena speedway stadium in Lynn and he says he is using that building as a template for The Walks.

He said: "The more improvements we've done at the Norfolk Arena the more people come. We've seen more families come and I know for a fact there's places I won't go if the toilets are that bad. So hopefully it will help."
