Chairman Shahid Azeem says Woking talks 'nearing end'

Woking

Woking chairman Shahid Azeem says talks with owner Chris Ingram to secure the club's future are close to an end.

The pair are discussing the ownership and use of Kingfield, with Ingram ending six years of investment in the club, but retaining the ground.

Azeem told BBC Surrey: "Keeping our fingers crossed, hopefully by the end of this year or beginning of January it should be all finalised.

"It's near the end, it's taken a lot longer than expected."

He added: "Obviously Chris wants to make sure the club is left in stable hands. He wants to ensure that's leaving it to the fans.

"We just have to make the whole thing work really.

"Chris owns the holding company that owns the land, he's our landlord.

"He hasn't got plans because of the way the current climate is for the next couple of years.

"Hopefully there is an opportunity for the club to get involved in it, we're just waiting for the paperwork to come through really."

Azeem hopes the discussions will be settled by the time the club hosts its annual general meeting on 18 January.
