Failure to adapt cost Boston United - Boss Paul Hurst
Boston United joint-manager Paul Hurst felt his players failed to adapt to the conditions as they lost 1-0 at Matlock Town in the Unibond Premier Division.
On a heavy pitch, former Boston striker Nathan Joynes's 59th-minute goal proved decisive as the Pilgrims were beaten for the first time in six games.
Hurst told BBC Lincolnshire: "The pitch was sticky and neither side strung more than three or four passes together.
"They dealt with it better, we never got started and got what we deserved."
Despite the defeat Boston remain second in the table, though they are now four points behind leaders Retford United.
Hurst added: "It wasn't good enough, the quality wasn't there and in the first half and at the beginning of the second half I thought we were out-fought."
In the Unibond First Division South a brace from Simon Mowbray helped Spalding United to a 3-0 victory over Leek Town, with Jordan Patrick also on target for the Tulips.
Grantham Town lost for the sixth successive Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Loughborough Dynamo.
Lincoln United remain in the bottom three following a 2-0 defeat by Mickleover Sports at Ashby Avenue and Stamford lost 2-0 at the new league leaders Kidsgrove Athletic.
Sleaford Town's run in the FA Vase ended as they lost 3-2 after extra time at Chertsey Town.
Gary Walters scored twice but Sleaford had Matt Hodgkins sent off in the first period before conceding the winner in the 120th minute.
