Trinity's win was their first in five home games under Brian Little
Gainsborough Trinity manager Brian Little hailed his players after their 1-0 victory at home to Gloucester City.
Mark Hudson scored the only goal of the game to give Little his first win at the Northolme in Blue Square North since taking charge in September.
Little told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I thought we looked strong and I was pleased with a lot of things.
"Recently we've looked like losing, even when we've got results, so it was important to win and I'm delighted."
Little felt Trinity's five-man defence, which included debutant Idrissa Alassane as one of three centre-backs, was a key part of their first win in eight games.
"I've been thinking about playing with three centre-backs and after Tuesday's match [at Alfreton] I felt I'd found a little something we could work on.
"I think the system suits us and hopefully it's a system the players will get better on. I'm not saying we've turned the corner but I hope we have."
Gainsborough have been drawn away at Unibond Premier Division side North Ferriby United in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy, with the tie to be played on Saturday, 21 November.
