Redditch Utd 2-0 Harrogate Town

Blue Square North

Goals from Jack Byrne and substitute Myron Sempa helped secure Redditch United a 2-0 home win over Harrogate Town at Valley Stadium.

The victory lifted Gary Whild's side out of the relegation places.

Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "Everybody says we're not a bottom-three team which we're not, but the reality was we were on the bottom.

"So it was good for the lads to get out of the bottom three places and we want it to stay that way," he said.

After the heartbreak of their FA Cup exit in the dying seconds of extra time in their replay at home to Kettering Town, Whild was concerned as to how his side would react.

But he said he had been impressed by the way in which his young squad had put that disappointment firmly behind them.

"The lads came in on Thursday night and they looked a lot better than I thought they would," Whild said.

I am sure that if the lads show the same application that they have over the last 10 days or so then we will get some results

Redditch boss Gary Whild

"They have done well today as their energy levels were good.

"They have stepped up to the plate and we have got the three points," he added.

The victory lifted Redditch out of the Blue Square North relegation places and Whild agreed it had been an important boost ahead of a tough run of matches.

"There are some hard games coming up although we have got a free week now," he said.

"Then the midweek matches start to kick in so it will be difficult with a small squad.

"But I am sure that if the lads show the same application that they have over the last 10 days or so then we will get some results."
