AFC Telford have signed striker Steve Thompson after he had his contract with Port Vale cancelled by mutual consent.
The 20-year-old made 17 appearances for Vale, 12 of them as a substitute, after joining from Middlesbrough in May 2008.
Thompson has already played in Blue Square North this season, spending a month on loan with Stafford Rangers.
"I need to be playing games, and at the present time that's not happening, so this route allows me to continue my career," he told the Vale website.
He is likely to make his Telford debut at home to Worcester in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Telford chairman Lee Carter told BBC Radio Shropshire: "He's a good player who we've signed on contract, initially until the end of the season."
Thompson scored two goals in his time at Port Vale, including one against Telford's neighbours Shrewsbury Town in their League Two fixture in January.
