Port Vale have signed Middlesbrough striker Steve Thompson after he impressed in a trial.
The 19-year-old, who played two reserve games for Vale, joins as they prepare for League Two following relegation.
"We do have things in the pipeline for bringing in experienced players, but you go with your gut feeling," manager Lee Sinnott told Vale's website.
"He strikes me as a man who is ready, willing and able to grab this chance. That's the type of player we want."
Thompson said: "I would like to thank them for bringing me here and giving me a chance.
"Hopefully I can repay them by scoring a few goals and help take the club back where they belong."
