Bromsgrove go into administration

Bromsgrove Rovers FC

Southern League Midland Division club Bromsgrove Rovers have gone into administration as anticipated.

Chairman Tom Herbert had said he would take the action to avoid the club going out of existence with a winding-up petition to be heard in the High Court.

The order has been brought by former club chairman John Teece and his wife Lynette over monies owed.

The Worcestershire club have been at the centre of a battle for control of the club for some time.

A group calling itself the Consortium for Football in Bromsgrove is trying to persuade Herbert to sell.

We've not been in discussions with the club regarding any offer for some time now

In his statement issued three weeks ago, announcing the club's decision to go into administration on 19 October, the Rovers chairman said there was already one group interested in taking control at the Victoria Ground and these details were to be passed to the administrators.

Consortium spokesman Phil Baker told BBC Hereford & Worcester that, to the best of his knowledge, they were not the group Mr Herbert was referring to.

"We've not been in discussions with the club regarding any offer for some time now," he said.

"If it is the one that we put in the last time we had any contact with them was several months ago now, so I doubt it is us."

Baker said despite assurances from the board to fans that the financial situation at the club was sound, this latest development demonstrated this was far from the case.

Rovers were runners up in the Conference in the 1992/93 season but then suffered a dramatic fall from grace that saw them tumble through three leagues into the Midland Alliance by 2000/01.

Despite being promoted back to the Southern League Midland Division at the first attempt, they have remained at this level ever since.
