Gainsborough 0-1 Telford United

Blue Square North

Midfielder Carl Rodgers hit the only goal of the game with just six minutes left as AFC Telford United climbed up to seventh in Blue Square North.

Trinity made three substitutions at half time but were effectively reduced to 10 men moments after the break when Luke Beckett suffered a groin injury.

Rob Smith's men created eight chances and could have won by more before Rodgers opened his season's account.

A draw looked likely before Rodgers beat Luke Herriot to snatch the win.

Telford managers Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire: "Including pre-season we've only lost one game in 11, so happy days."

Gainsborough caretaker manager Dave Reeves told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "Our game plan didn't work. We couldn't get near the ball, so at half time we felt we had to change it.

"Two of the changes were tactical, we thought they lacked energy, but once we'd changed things the goalkeeper told us he was injured.

"You've made your three substitutions then, after two minutes of the second half, Luke Beckett pulled his groin and could hardly move.

"For their endeavour in the second half the other 10 players deserved a point.

"We haven't played the best and things haven't worked out for us, but a point would have been a great result in the end."
