Cowan prepared for Hurst threat

AFC Telford United defender Gavin Cowan hopes to keep a close eye on former Shrewsbury team-mate Glynn Hurst at Gainsborough on Saturday.

Cowan played with Hurst for Shrewsbury in Gary Peters' time at the Gay Meadow.

"They've got a great strike force," said Cowan. "I know Glynn from my Shrewsbury days and his capabilities."

Hurst, who joined Gainsborough after initially signing for troubled Chester City, has already scored twice for the Lincolnshire club.

"I've played against Glynn and Luke Beckett and they're both tricky customers," added Hurst. "If they're playing in that team obviously they're going to make a difference."

Telford will hope to get back to winning ways after the 2-2 midweek home draw with Hinckley United, which left them 10th in Blue Square North.

"Hopefully we'll go there and start performing to our capabilities," added Cowan.

But Cowan knows it will be tough after Gainsborough sacked their manager Steve Charles earlier in the week.

"The sacking of a manager can get a team down," he said. "Or they could be thinking the new manager's coming in. They'll be out to impress."

You can hear full match coverage of Gainsborough against AFC Telford United on BBC Radio Shropshire (from 1400 BST) on Saturday, 22 August.
