Merritt quits as Oxford City boss

Justin Merritt has quit as City's boss after just two games of the new season

Justin Merritt has resigned as manager of Southern League Premier Division side Oxford City.

He has been replaced by his assistant Mike Ford.

Ford, 43, has previously had two spells as caretaker manager in the Football League at Oxford United, where he was also a long-serving player.

Merritt cited work commitments for his decision to step down, but he also admitted that he had not been getting the desired response from his players.

City have lost their opening two matches, Merritt's decision coming in the wake of the 2-1 defeat at Hemel Hempstead.

Ford's first match in charge will be this Saturday, away at Nuneaton Borough.
