Weaver happy with three-goal win

Harrogate Town

Harrogate Town got their first win under the leadership of Simon Weaver when they beat Vauxhall Motors.

Jon Maloney, Dave McTiernan and Curtis Woodhouse scored for Town in the 3-0 win at the CNG Stadium.

Weaver told BBC Radio York: "Everyone will have been thinking the same thoughts, when are we going to get the first goal and the first win.

"It was a fantastic feeling for everyone all round when Maloney rocketed that first one in."

Weaver was also pleased with how his side came back from their defeat against Corby Town on the opening day of the season.

I truly believe once we gel we'll be close knit side and we'll produce some flowing football

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver

"It's been a long few days. A lot of people have been texting and getting through to me since Saturday and saying we'd had a bit of a drubbing for our first game and I must be a bit down.

"In all honesty I wasn't down. I was frustrated at the result the other day because I thought we turned in a decent performance all round but didn't really get the rub of the green.

"We had to be positive and we've got a lot of young lads and I had to give a lot of positive vibes after Saturday because I truly believe once we gel we'll be close knit side and we'll produce some flowing football."

Town are at home again on Saturday against Eastwood Town and Weaver is expecting a different test for his team.

"Eastwood are a big physical team. We're expecting a hard game, a different game from tonight.

"Tonight was difficult. They played some good quality football at times but if we put in a similar kind of shift I think we'll come out with the same kind of positive result again."
