St Albans 2-0 Worcester City

Blue Square South

Worcester manager Richard Dryden said his players must "stand up and be counted" after losing 2-0 to St Albans on Tuesday.

The result followed Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Bromley.

"They need a lift as you are only going to mollycoddle people so much after the last two performances," Dryden told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"Sometimes now players are looked after too well and it's about time people stood up and were counted."

City went to St Albans looking for a positive response after the opening day defeat by Bromley, but they rarely threatened the home team's goal.

St Albans took the lead shortly before the hour mark when Drew Roberts fired home from the edge of the area.

They made sure of all three points when substitute Danny Green, who had only been on the pitch for around a minute, beat City goalkeeper Richard Mace with a long range effort.
Midfielder Graham Ward returned to Worcester's starting line up after missing the Bromley game through injury.

But goalkeeper Jake Meredith, who injured his shoulder during a pre-season friendly with Kidderminster, was missing again.

Worcester will look to register their first points of the season when they travel to Woking on Saturday.

There will be coverage of this game on Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford and Worcester which will be on air and online from 1400 BST.
