Banbury United manager Billy Jeffrey has confirmed Luke Bennett will miss the entire season due to injury.
The defender suffered a recurrence of a cruciate knee ligament injury during pre-season and has since undergone surgery in a bid to repair the damage.
"He's going to be out for the season and I feel sorry for the lad," Jeffrey told BBC Oxford.
"It's a big blow for the club but it's a big blow for the lad himself because it's the third operation he's had."
The injury to Bennett has hampered the club's preparations ahead of the new season and Jeffrey is anticipating a difficult test in Saturday's opener against Stourbridge.
"They are a big strong side," Jeffrey added.
"They're a big physical side and it will be a tough game for us but we've got to match them and hopefully come out on top."
