Corby Town manager Graham Drury has warned his side not to rest on their laurels as he is constantly looking at new signings to improve his squad.
Former Notts County midfielder Gavin Strachan is the latest player to sign for the club after a successful trial.
Drury told BBC Radio Northampton: "Strachan gives us composure in midfield, but he's fighting for a starting place just like everyone else.
"I've told the players to never rest on their laurels."
Corby have lost only one of their seven pre-season matches and that was to League One side Huddersfield.
Most recently, they scored two goals in the final three minutes to draw with Rushden and Diamonds.
"If a better player comes along in any position, then I'll think about it," Drury added.
"We've done well, the commitment from the players has been fantastic and they've made it difficult for me to narrow the squad down.
"I hope that teams in the Conference North will take Corby seriously.
"There's no reason we can't be a threat. It'll be interesting to see how far we've come when we play Harrogate (in the season opener)."
The Steelmen's next friendly is at Grantham Town on Thursday (1930 BST).
