Drury looks to narrow down squad

Graham Drury
Drury got Corby promoted into the Blue Square North League last season

Corby Town manager Graham Drury has said that he wants an 18-strong squad for the start of the season.

The Steelmen next play Unibond Division One South side Spalding United, and Drury is expecting to narrow down his playing staff after the game.

Drury told BBC Radio Northampton: "With 17 or 18 in the squad, we'll be a nice compact unit.

"On Thursday, I will perhaps talk to a couple of players who we'll let go, and talk to a couple about loan spells."

Against League Two opposition, Corby have beaten Northampton Town 2-1 and drew 0-0 with Macclesfield Town, they have also beaten Rothwell Town 3-0 but lost 4-1 to League One side Huddersfield Town.

Chris Hope is a good organiser and good player to have in the camp. There's a good team atmosphere

"The signs are very positive from the Northampton game, Lawrie Dudfield had a slow start but he could be a handful," Drury added.

"Jamie McGhee looks like he could mature into a very good footballer and David Deeney showed that he can play in a couple of positions.

"Chris Hope is a good organiser and good player to have in the camp. There's a good team atmosphere."
