AFC Telford United midfielder Jamie Vermiglio is determined to put last season's injury problems behind him and fight for a place in Rob Smith's team.

Vermiglio was initially told he had broken his back and should not play football, only to later be told that it was not as bad as first feared.

"I'm feeling good," Vermiglio told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I've been doing a lot of training and core strength. I just want to prove my fitness."

Vermiglio revealed that a number of other Blue Square North interested in signing him. But he insists that last season's beaten play-off finalists are the only club for him.

"I've had a few phone calls," he said. "Considering my problems with my back, I wasn't expecting to get any phone calls.

"But I do want to stay at Telford and told Rob Smith that, so I'm looking forward to starting for Telford."
